Just some friction in The Machine

A music pirate sues the RIAA for violating her 1st Amendment right to privacy. This is an interesting twist, I think she stands a chance of bringing down the Digital Millenium Copyright Act.

And the winner is......marijuana

Sacramento Bee reporter and blogger Daniel Weintraub blogs about yesterday's governor's race candidate forum

The big winner in the debate: marijuana. All five candidates declared their support for making it available for medicinal purposes. It was the only thing on which they all agreed.

Saw the From the Wilderness ad in the today's local monopoly daily newspaper in Sacramento. The ad (480 K) on page C7 isn't in the exact format as the linked PDF, but it has the same text and graphics. I've never visited several of the websites mentioned; I guess I'll have to see what's up with them: www.cooperativeresearch.org.
www.guerrillanews.com, http://socrates.berkeley.edu/~pdscott/

On a side note, I am enjoying the slight cooling trend in Sacramento tonight. Yesterday was 105 degrees and I found it almost unbearable. Tonight I barbequed a steak and some corn on the cob. Mixed up some margaritas and put some Susannah McCorkle on the CD. It's really too bad Susannah committed suicide in 2001. I think she was the best jazz vocalist I've ever heard.

Jon Davis makes an interesting comparison between software licensing and the use of Federal Reserve Notes. I like his punch line

So the long and short of it is, if you don't want to use their software, don't use it. Get your own system running. Try Linux. It's free, it's open-source, and there is no monopoly...
The only thing missing is a link to Liberty Dollars, the monetary equivalent of open source software in his comparison.
