Just some friction in The Machine

Received a note from Paul Ballmer regarding the deposition of Franchise Tax Board employees on Monday. It seems they have moved venue as well as date with one business day notice. How do they get away with this type of procedure? The deposition will be June 12th in Van Nuys, California. If you can attend, contact Paul Ballmer by June 9th so he can make a reservation for you.

And if our current income tax situation wasn't bad enough, the California legislature is debating AB 1690 which would allow local governments to impose an income tax in California.

Thanks to Joseph Almond for plugging my wife's bookmarks on his blog.

There was a story on Ed Rosenthal today in the local daily newspaper, The Sacramento Bee. It prompted me to write the following letter to the editor

---snip---
Re "Medicinal pot's leader receives lenient sentence," June 5: Bravo to U.S. District Judge Breyer for sentencing medical
marijuana activist Ed Rosenthal to one day, already served, in county jail instead of the 60 years in federal prison that
he could have. And bravo to Rosenthal for promising to appeal the decision.

Somehow, Breyer managaged to see the unreasonableness of sending a man to prison for aiding his fellow man. What Breyer
didn't see, and I believe the Supreme Court will someday see, is that the Controlled Substances Act violates the 9th and
10th Amendments of the Constitution.

So carry on Ed Rosenthal. For the good of all of us and our Constitutional rights, appeal. Where do I send my donation
to the defense appeal fund?
Gerald Klaas, Sacramento
---end snip---

I was notified by e-mail this evening that they have decided to publish it. I'll let you know when it gets published.
BTW: You can donate at the Green Aid website.

The Freedom Law School has a client involved in a court deposition with 2 employees of the California equivalent of the IRS. Here it's the Franchise Tax Board. If they'll let me in, I'll be attending this event here in Sacramento on June 9th. I don't have a lot of info, but I know that Bob Schulz spoke at their Health and Freedom Rally 2003 in March, so if they're looking for people to attend an event here in Sacramento, I'll make sure I'm there. Here's what I know

---------------------------------
Watch FTB employees sweat underinterrogation,
LIVE!!!

Paul Ballmer, won and collected a $250,000
Judgment against theCalifornia Franchise Tax
Board (FTB) in 2001. Paul and Peymon, Presidentof
Freedom Law School, along with 13 other
plaintiffs are is now involvedin 5 lawsuits
against the FTB. These lawsuits are conducted
under theCalif. Civil Code, Sec. 1798 et seq,
(the Information Practices Act, alsoIPA).

One of the lawsuits, has a single plaintiff named
Judy Welch. Welch?scase is scheduled for trial on
July 21, 2003 in Orange County SuperiorCourt. In
preparation for the trial, we want to depose two
FTBemployees in Sacramento. A deposition is a
court proceeding in whicha person (an FTB
employee here) is questioned live, under
oath.Judy Welch is entitled to ask A LOT of
questions about how the FTBillegally operates and
systematically violates the law.

If you live in the Sacramento area, or are
willing to travel toSacramento, you may be able
to attend this "public"deposition of these two
FTB employees. The purpose of inviting you,"the
public", is to expose the deceit and fraud, which
is soprevalent in the FTB's activities.

If you are interested in watching these FTB
employees sweat while they confess to FTB?s
illegal activities, your preliminary input to
attend this deposition is needed to arrange for
the proper sized room, number of chairs etc., and
to give the necessary advance notice to
theAttorney General's Office which represents
the FTB.

A video will be available for purchase later.
Also, we expect to conduct several other
depositions at a later date. If you cannotmake
this deposition, but are interested in attending
a future one, orpurchasing a video of this
deposition, let us know and we will put you onour
contact list.

Yours in health, freedom and justice,
Peymon, President, Freedom Law School

An article in Federal Computer Week talks about the IRS computer systems being rife with security weaknesses. I don't know why anyone would expect that a government that can't answer a few simple questions about the tax law would protect be willing to adequately protect the reams of personal information we voluntarily send to them each year.

Congressman Ron Paul published a column today that compares the media attention to two bill signings this last week. Or, more accurately, he compares the media circus around the $350 billion tax cut with the virtual silence on the $984 billion increase in the federal debt. (Read: our children's labor.) Granted, I have a BA in Mathematics, but even a reporter should recognize that one of these is three times the size of the other. OK, Sacramento Bee, did you give one three times the coverage of the other? Gee, which one?

Hey Doug, got your message. You'll now find my e-mail link in the right column. Thanks for the comment. It was I who told you about eFax service. I don't do the ten dollar a month thing, I really don't use it that much. What I have is their "free trial" service, where they give you a number outside your area code that can receive but not send FAXes. If I needed to send FAXes I'd probably get their service. Instead, I just receive, and their software pops ads at me when I'm reading them. I think it's a fair trade. Anyway, when I receive a FAX, it arrives in my e-mail, and I can then "print" it to a PDF file using another service PDF995. The number they've given me is (661)752-7965, so if you want to FAX stuff there, I'll convert it to PDF for you and e-mail it back. I do have a PayPal account, gklaas@sacto.com, but I don't want your money, give it to Gene Chapman to help with his cell phone bill if you feel the need. Now if any one else wants to send me money, feel free. Better yet, go buy some of my wife's artwork.
